Bookstore Bucks

Wear your green and gold pride with the Bookstore Bucks program! Cash-in your volunteer time for credits that can be used to purchase merchandise at the University of Alberta Bookstore, in person or online.

Participation in this rewards program is completely optional. Alumni volunteers can earn one Bookstore Buck per hour volunteered. One Bookstore Buck is equivalent to $1 (CAD), redeemable in the form of a gift card to the University of Alberta Bookstore.

Who can earn Bookstore Bucks?

Only U of A alumni volunteers are eligible to participate at this time. Also, due to the Gift Expenditure Policy, volunteers who are also current University of Alberta staff are unable to receive gift cards, but we can connect with you about other appreciation options.

How do I earn Bookstore Bucks?

After volunteering at an event or program featured on this site, track your hours to accumulate Bookstore Bucks. Each volunteer will be responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of their own hours. Only hours that have been approved by U of A staff will be accepted for Bookstore Bucks. Hours must be tracked within three months of when they are worked or they will be forfeited. Hour tracking and the Bookstore Buck program begins as of August 1, 2020.

Is there a limit on how many Bookstore Bucks I can earn?

Yes. You must have a minimum of 10 hours before you can cash out. Also, You may only cash out a maximum of 100 volunteer hours per calendar year (Jan. 1 to Dec. 31).

Do Bookstore Bucks expire?

Gift cards do not expire. Volunteer hours that have been submitted may be cashed out for Bookstore Bucks up to one year from the date the hours are worked, or until the closure of this rewards program. It is a volunteer's responsibility to track their own hours and cash out before the hours expire.

How do I receive my Bookstore Bucks?

Once you have accumulated a minimum of 10 eligible volunteer hours, you can "cash out" your hours for a bookstore gift card. When you are ready to redeem your hours, simply submit the below form and we will ready a bookstore gift card for you. Bookstore Bucks are processed on a monthly basis.
