Volunteer Spotlight: Ali Grotkowski, '04 BSc, '08 BA, '14 MA, '14 MLIS
Ali Grotkowski, '04 BSc, '08 BA, '14 MA, '14 MLIS, has been volunteering in a variety of roles with the Alumni Association since 2015. Volunteering has been a big part of Ali’s life since she got involved with the Circle K International club on campus as a student, doing acts of service in the community and internationally.
Ali has been a big supporter of Project Postcard and has written many encouraging messages to students. Ali enjoys writing postcards because it's something she can do anytime and it gives her a chance to use her creativity. Ali recently had a baby, so Project Postcard is a way she can still stay involved with the University as a volunteer.
Ali has also done a lot of in-person volunteering with us, including at Kids Create and Winter Fest. Winter Fest, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Alumni Association, sticks out to Ali as an incredibly unique experience. She was able to participate in many different activities that weekend and meet alumni from all walks of life. She felt the "heart-warming comfort on a cold winter's day" coming from the entire alumni community.
Ali's advice for future volunteers: get out of your comfort zone. It's important to learn new things and develop new skills and if you don't like something, you can try something else!
