Volunteer Spotlight: Carolina Martinez, ‘18 MBA
Carolina Martinez, '18 MBA, is currently a board member of the Business Alumni Association (BAA), but has held many volunteer positions previously. Carolina is originally from Mexico, where she always volunteered in her community. When she moved to Edmonton to get her MBA several years ago, she knew she wanted to start volunteering to connect with her fellow students in her program and across campus.
Carolina started volunteering in the MBA Association as external chair, then was elected to be Chief Returning Officer in the Graduate Students Association. She found her volunteer experiences very fulfilling and wanted to continue being involved with the University after she graduated. Carolina started with the BAA as a volunteer and then as a chair of the mentorship committee, which she loved. The mentorship program was so rewarding and created long-lasting friendships for Carolina. She continues to volunteer with the BAA and is very proud of the work that they’ve been able to accomplish! According to one of her fellow board members, Carolina is “model ambassador and champion for students, alumni, the School and greater University!”
Her advice for starting out? There may be a learning curve, so be patient and listen to others around you. She has gained so much personal growth through volunteering and recommends it to everyone. Carolina hopes to continue to impact the alumni family through her volunteer work.
