U of A, it's time to support our local community by helping to grow Edmonton's urban forest! Adding native trees and shrubs will provide numerous environmental, social, and economic benefits to this area and beyond. Root for Trees plays a critical role in the landscape management process of naturalization. Over time, these grassy areas are planted with trees, shrubs, and wildflowers and brought back to a more natural state, resulting in economic, environmental, and quality of life benefits.
This year, we will be planting at Rundle Park!
Root For Trees - The Planting
We will be planting outdoors, so please dress for the weather! Root For Trees includes physical labor, including moving trees and plants and digging holes! Working in a natural area, you may encounter thistles, sticks, or garbage. Consider dressing in layers, long pants, and wearing a hat. You must wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes, such as runners. Volunteers may not participate in planting activities if they wear inappropriate footwear, such as sandals, flip-flops, or high-heeled shoes.
We welcome volunteers of all ages to participate!
We request that there be one responsible person over the age of 16 for every three children under 7 years old. Any minor, below the age of 18, requires a parent or guardian to be present, and responsible for the minor while volunteering with us.
If you are bringing children under the age of 18, please click "Respond as a Team", then "reserve additional spots" with how many members of your group there are. We will contact you with the appropriate waiver that must be signed before the event.
Dessert Social
Join us for a delightful dessert social following tree planting! Calling all volunteers to indulge in sweet treats as we gather to celebrate our collective efforts in making a positive environmental impact. This post-planting gathering is our way of saying thank you for your invaluable contribution. Pack a picnic blanket and join us for a fun and rewarding experience—it's free for all volunteers!
Please register by June 9, 2025. We will be in touch with more information closer to the event! If you have any questions about the registration process please email us at alumni.volunteer@ualberta.ca.
